There is so much to see and do in Galveston. It will keep most snowbirds busy for months. Galveston is a small romantic island tucked deep within the heart of south Texas possessing all the charm of a small southern town and just 40 minutes south of the fourth largest city in the United States. Galveston's temperate weather generally allows visitors to enjoy the beautiful outdoors year-round.
From soft sandy beaches to famous 19th century architecture, the island is surrounded with incredible history and unique beauty. It offers 32 miles of relaxing beaches, superb restaurants, top resort hotels, marvelous downtown shopping, numerous antique stores, incredible art galleries, fabulous entertainment and one of the largest and well-preserved concentrations of Victorian architecture in the country.
There is also golf, fishing, birding and horseback riding. Three/fourths of all North American species travel through Galveston during fall and spring migration. There are two 18-hole golf courses located on the Island - the Galveston Island Municipal Golf Course and the Galveston Country Club. The Municipal course is a public course and the Country Club is private.
Galveston's East Beach is the coolest and biggest beach in Texas. Now famous for its greatest beach parties, East Beach has major outdoor concerts, special events, promotions, bikini contests, live bands, and other activities. Unlike most beaches, drinking is legal on East Beach. East Beach holds about 7,000 cars on a huge wide open beach.
Galveston has sung her siren song for generations of snowbirds from far away. It is a distinctive treat and if a little romance is what you're yearning for, try an after-dinner ride by horse-drawn carriage through the downtown area at dusk. |
