Twentynine Palms is a city in San Bernardino County, California, named for the palm trees located in the Oasis of Mara. Joshua Tree National Park headquarters is located here in the beautiful desert wilderness area.
When the area of Twentynine Palms was settled by gold miners in the late nineteenth century, there were 29 palm trees growing in the oasis, most of which are still standing today.
Gateway to Mojave Desert, Joshua Tree National Park, the Mojave Preserve, and the largest military base in the United States. Twentynine Palms is home to the world's largest Marine Corps Base. It is the premier training facility in the world for Marine operations and draws military personnel from all over the world for live fire Combined Arms Exercises.
The peace and serenity offered by the desert attracts a large community of artists. Many snowbirds with an artistic bent are discovering Twentynine Palms. The Twentynine Palms Senior Center is located at 6539 Adobe Road. There are many programs and services available for senior citizens.
