There are 137 parks on approximately 2,300 acres of St. Pete public land including a seven mile preserved downtown waterfront. Unique parks include the 245-acre Boyd Hill Nature Preserve, the botanical attraction Sunken Gardens, Treasure Island Beach, and the historic Weedon Island Preserve.
The Pinellas Trail, a 37-mile hiking/biking trail, connects St. Petersburg with central and north Pinellas County-the longest urban linear trail in the Eastern United States.
There are three award-winning public golf courses, nine public pools including an Olympic-size training facility located on Tampa Bay, 80 lighted tennis courts, and five dog parks. There are over 50 golf courses in the area.
City venues include The Pier, Tropicana Field, Mahaffey Theater, Coliseum, Albert Whitted Municipal Airport, Port of St. Petersburg, 18 recreation centers, and six public libraries. There is a lot to do and see.
St. Petersburg is truly enhanced by water, it is a peninsula city 61 feet above sea level surrounded by water and an intracoastal waterway. St. Pete has one of the largest municipal marina in the southeast with 610 boat slips. Nine boat ramp locations, and is open year round.
There is plenty of area to boat with 244 miles of shoreline along Tampa Bay, Boca Ciega Bay, the Gulf of Mexico and intra coastal waterways. Deep sea fishing party boats and private charters go out daily as well as sightseeing boating excursions. The Gulf of Mexico is generally calm yet there is enough breeze for sailing. This is a snowbirds paradise.
