Snowbirds love Lakeland, Florida. It is beautiful place to visit, and many soon decide it is a wonderful place to live. Lakeland has the charm and feel of a small town with the convenience and amenities of a much larger city.

Lakeland, population a little over 90,000 is a diverse and eclectic city full of southern hospitality while at the same time bustling with new activity.

Positioned perfectly in the center of the state of Florida, it has easy access to a wider variety of things to do. Midway between Tampa and Orlando along Interstate 4, it provides a wealth of shopping, dining, and recation opportunities. The area is ranked the No. 16 golfing community by Golf Digest Magazine.

Lakeland is a diverse city when it comes to Arts & Culture. The amount of cultural activities available rivals cities much larger and the community is very active in participating.

There are 38 named lakes in Lakeland. There are several other bodies of water that are not natural lakes, but abandoned phosphate mine pits that have filled with water. Lake Parker, covering 2,250 acres, is the largest. Lake Horney at just under 8 acres, is the smallest.

You will find some of the best fresh water bass fishing venues in the world. If you like the lure of big water you can also visit the world class Gulf and Atlantic beaches that are a short drive away for fishing and sunbathing.

The city maintains over 50 parks with an array of amenities including baseball, football, lakefront picnic areas, walking trails, an in-line skating rink, skate park, playgrounds, fishing, volleyball, and boat ramps.

The city operates six recreational facilities including a full service 27-hole golf course, two pools, two top quality weight rooms, 32 lighted tennis courts, eight three-wall racquetball courts, 32 covered shuffleboard courts, an artificial lawn-bowling green, bike trails, and recreational programming.

Lakeland Linder Regional Airport is able to accommodate business travelers in corporate jets as well as private individuals who have their own aircraft. Lakeland is 141 feet above sea level.

Lakeland’s new Amtrak station is a great benefit to the city. Lakeland Amtrak Station Thruway Motorcoach service, is provided for Amtrak to Orlando, Tampa, Pinellas Park-St. Petersburg, Bradenton, Sarasota, Port Charlotte and Fort Myers. It also provides additional Thruway Motorcoach service to Zephyrhills, Dade City, Wildwood, Ocala, Gainesville, Waldo, and Jacksonville.
